Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Salem Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas.  Salem Church members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple preparing the church bulletins to volunteering on the local fire department.  We live our message.

Mission Outreach Salem Church is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the world. We support two national pastors in India through Gospel for Asia, Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, and Flat Rock Children’s Home. Through Faith Promise support is given to H2O, a campus ministry to Kent State and Akron University, Crisis Pregnancy and others.  We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers to live and minister in our own community or serve world wide missions as Shareen Orchard does with Gospel For Asia. This year we raised over $15,000 to build a church in India. Music God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Multi-media is used to enhance worship.  We do not try to be contemporary, while you may experience that our music is current, but we set the standard high:  Worship is all about Jesus.  Therefore all our worship is relevant and moves the hearts and minds of God’s people. We like the word RELEVANT instead of contemporary. Ushers The usher team at Salem Church fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.   Media & Technology Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Salem Church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes.  Our worship is enhanced with multi-media.  Pastor Orchard’s messages use KeyNote and incorporate relevant video segments. All of our weekly sermons are recorded in audio formats. We also maintain an active Facebook and Twitter feed for additional church communication.

Tutoring Washington Elementary School Students
Each Tuesday at 4:15 to 5:15, during the school year, students in grades 1-5 are referred to our tutoring program. Our tutors are trained and carefully structure each students goals and progress.  There is no cost for this program.  Contact the church if you have additional questions.

Blessings in a Back Pack Over 135 children receive an additional supply of food for the weekend at our local schools. A team meets at the church on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m.  to pack the individual packages.

Prayer Warriors Prayer cannot be overestimated. Our church has always been known as a praying church. Prayer moves the hand of God. Salem Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty.  Throughout the week there is prayer for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Kid’s Club Let’s be honest.  Salem Church did not have children for almost ten years.  We are a church that is coming alive with young families and children again!  It took a fire in March 2010 that resulted in new facilities being rebuilt that addressed the real needs and expectations of families with children.  We were ready and growth has happened. In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, Salem Church offers “Kid’s Club” on the first Saturday of October through May. There are games, Veggie Tales videos, Crafts and fun songs with the Go Fish Guys.
